Indigenous Agricultural Adaptation to Climate Change
Michiana Region
This research project investigated the agricultural adaptation strategies to the effects of climate change on family-run farms in the northern Indiana and southwest Michigan region (known as “Michiana”). Specifically, this investigation focused on uncovering ancestral family (or “passed-down”) techniques and the types of structures used to manage this knowledge (methods of passing down). However, this study primarily concluded that ancestral techniques are perceived to have died out in this region due to the prevalence of the internet. This study was intended to be a “pilot” for a larger scale research project designed for the Cusco region in Peru.
